The RKC Dojo's Internal Shiai League will kick off in 2022 with a internal competition on Saturday, 22 January 2022 at the RKC Dojo in Rivonia.
Based on the results of this competition, members will be placed on a "League Ladder" and it will show each members "League Ranking" based on their performance in the shiai!
Thereafter, there will be an almost-monthly league competition, and points will again be allocated to the members, resulting in the members moving move up or down the ladder. The goal for each league competitor is to reach the top 3 spots of the ladder by the end of the year, and be designated as the "League Champion", "Ist Runner Up" and "2nd Runner Up", respectively!
Each eligible RKC member is encouraged to takes part in the league so as to improve on their shiai-skills, as well as build up their competitive fighting spirit! This will be a fun and invaluable experience!
As as secondary objective, the Shiai League will also be an opportunity for members to start learning about the Kendo competition logistic and rules: Logistics will include things such as being able to mark out the shiai-jo (competition area); place the seating and tables for score-keepers, shimpan (referees); score and record the competition properly; place the correct tags on the shiai-sha (competitors); etc. The shiai rules should be studied by all, and furthermore, slightly more experienced members will also have an opportunity to perform the duties of a "shimpan" (kendo match referee) whilst on the shiai-jo. There will be a brief theory session prior to the league competition so as to impart this invaluable skill set to the members.
It should be noted that there may be additional competitions planned by the RKC dojo, as well as other dojo's during the year, however, it is still undecided if those results would influence the League Ladder's results.

The Ryū Ken Chi Dojo (RKC Dojo) train the traditional Japanese martial arts of Kendo and Iaido (sword-based martial arts), as well as Jodo(the art of the short staff/stick), that encourages the cultivation of the human character.
The RKC DOJO has 2 venues in Johannesburg where in-dojo training takes place - Rivonia and Observatory. Online training is also available.
