Opening of the RKC Dojo Observatory on 5 OCT 2021



As from 27 September 2021, the "Rivonia Kendo Club", will now be known as the "RKC Dojo"and will have two branches, one in Rivonia and the other in Observatory. Both of these dojo's are in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The RKC Dojo Observatory will train Kendo every Tuesday and Thursday from 7pm to 8:30pm at the Observatory Sports Club, 59 Frederick Street, Observatory, Johannesburg (South Africa).


On Tuesday, 5 October 2021, the RKC Dojo in Observatory, east of Johannesburg, will officially open its doors to begin kendo training!


The agenda for our inaugural training session is as follow:

7pm - 7:15pm: Opening Ceremony

7:15 - 8:30pm: Kendo Training


ALL RKC members, as well as all other SAKF members are welcome to attend our inaugural session!


If you have any interested family members or friends who stay close by that area, and would like to start kendo, please let them know about the RKC Dojo Observatory!


As a GRAND OPENING SPECIAL, anyone who joins up in the month of OCTOBER 2021, they will receive a 25% discount off their monthly training fee for the REST of 2021 (i.e. October, November and December). T&C's will apply!


All existing RKC Kendo members (except for online members) can train at BOTH the Rivonia dojo and the Observatory dojo at NO ADDITIONAL FEE, meaning that a RKC member could train up to 4x a week at the dojo's, PLUS and an additional 2x a week online. That is 6x a week of Kendo training!

P.S. Please be sure to abide by the COVID-19 Safety Protocols when coming to the dojo.


COVID-19 SAFETY PROTOCOL:

  1. If you are not feeling well, and/or are displaying any COVID-19 symptoms, PLEASE DO NOT COME TO THE DOJO!

  2. Pre-screening and registration to take place before entering the dojo (the hall of the Observatory Sports Club);

  3. Sanitize regularly using your own sanitizers or the sanitizers provided by the sports club and/or the dojo;

  4. Wear proper masks at all times both while waiting to compete, as well as when it is your time to compete. Please be sure to wear an APPROPRIATE mask or tengui under your MEN if you are required to be in full bogu (armour);

  5. As an added precaution, kindly insert a plastic mouth shield into your MEN if you are taking part in bogu. Please note that this is OPTIONAL, but is highly recommended.

  6. Adequate social distancing MAY not be an option as the hall night be rather crowded on the day. However, all doors, windows and fans will be opened to ensure maximum ventilation.

The RKC DOJO (RKC) train the traditional Japanese martial arts of Kendo and Iaido (sword-based martial arts), as well as Jodo(the art of the short staff/stick), that encourages the cultivation of the human character.
