The RYU KEN CHAMPIONSHIPS - Summer 2025 Edition

Our annual event, "The RYU KEN CHAMPIONSHIPS - Summer 2025 Edition", will be held on Saturday, 18 October 2025 at the Rivonia Sports Club.

The following competition categories will take place this year:


1) 3-Person Mixed-Team Kendo Competition. All participants will be placed in a pool and randomly-generated teams with be created! The total Dan grade sum for each team will be that of 5 Dan. Participants must be in bogu and 13 years or older.


2) Dojo Champions Individual Kendo Competition. Each dojo is to submit 2 of their dojo champions to take part in this 16-person individual competition event!


The registration fee for this competition will be R150 per person


Please note that the competition fee will be billed to your home dojo.


FAMILY, FRIENDS and SPECTATORS ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND! NO ENTRANCE FEE FOR SPECTATING!


The program for the day is as follows :

08h00 - 08h30 : Hall Set-Up

08h30 - 08h50 : Registration & Self-Warm Up & Shinai Check

08h55 - 09h00 : Opening Ceremony

09h00 - 12h00 : 3-Person Mixed-Team Kendo Competition

12h00 - 12h30 : Lunch Break

12h30 - 14h50 : Dojo Champions Individual Kendo Competition

14h50 - 15h00 : Closing Ceremony


Shiai-Jo Layout

Competition Rules:

GENERAL RULES:

  • The matches will be done in accordance with the FIK Shiai rules, AS WELL AS the temporary FIK rules that are in place due to the pandemic.

  • Fights will be done as sanbon-shobu.

  • Encho will be from the KO rounds only, of which the time will be 3-mins.

  • If still no winner prevails after encho, the victory will be decided by hantei.

  • If by hantei, the shimpan are to first consider the skills of the shiai-sha, thereafter the attitude of the shiai-sha


TEAM EVENT-SPECIFIC RULES:

  • TEAM EVENT fights will be 3-mins long per fight. Finals will be 5 mins.

  • The top 2 teams per pool will proceed to the KO rounds.

  • Team victory will first be based on the higher number of fights won. If this is equal, then the victor will be the team with the most ippon scored. If this is equal, then one daihyosha from each team shall fight to decide the match. Maximum fight time will be 3 mins, and thereafter decided by hantei.

  • For the team event, 3-person teams will be randomly selected amongst all the participants!

  • To keep it fair, the dan grade sum will not exceed 5th-dan! This will be factored in when the random draws are done.

  • Team fighting orders to be submitted ONE MATCH BEFORE their fight!

  • The team member with the LOWEST grade must fight in the chuken (middle/2nd) position of the team.


INDIVIDUAL EVENT-SPECIFIC RULES:

  • INDIVIDUAL EVENT fights will be 3-mins long. Finals will be 5 mins.

  • For INDIVIDUAL EVENTS, the top 2 player of each pool will proceed to the KO rounds.
