RKC'S 2025 Winter Championships

The 2025 Winter Championship is our annual, internal competition that is open only to RKC Dojo members. This year it will be held on 28 June 2025 (Saturday) at the Rivonia Sports Club.
The following competition categories will take place this year:
1) Individual Kendo Competition, including a (13 years and older and has bogu)
2) 2-Person Kendo Kata Team Competition (Open to all; Self-Selected Partners)
3) Iaido Individual Competition
The registration fee for this competition will be R150 per participant for any/all of the competition categories he/she is eligible for.
FAMILY, FRIENDS and SPECTATORS ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND! NO ENTRANCE FEE FOR SPECTATING!

Competition Rules:
There will be various rules for the various competitions:
For the Iaido Kata Competition, the following guild lines are in place:
Iaido members can take part in this competition.
Only the ZNKR Kata's 1 - 6 will be used in this competition.
The initial pool rounds will consist 3-4 competitors and will be a round robin.
Top 2 of each pool will go thru to the Knock-out rounds.
For the 2-Person Kendo Kata Competition, the following guild lines are in place:
Open to all ages and members of all 3 of the arts at the RKC (Kendo Iaido and Jodo)
A team of 2-competitors is predetermined by the competitors and must reflect accordingly on the registration forms.
The competition bout will consist of performing 3 kata's that are selected by the competition committee before hand. This will change with each stage of the competition.
The Kata to know will be the Nippon Kendo Kata (1-7)
2 teams will compete simultaneously in front of 3 shimpans.
At the end of the bout, the one shimpan will call, "HANTAI", and the shimpan will simultaneously raise their flag for the team they thought performed the kata the best.
For the Individual Kendo Competition, the following rules will apply:
The matches will be done in accordance with the FIK Shiai rules, AS WELL AS the new FIK rules that apply to tsuba-zarai.
Fights will be done as sanbon-shobu.
ALL fights will be max. 3-mins long. Finals will be 5 mins.
All dan grades and above might be required to be shimpan when possible.
The competition format will be pools of 3 or 4 competitors, with the top 2 coming through to the "Primary" knock-out rounds.
The bottom 1 or 2 of the pool will go into a challenger's round, which will be a pool of competitors that will engage in randomly chosen fights against each other to yield the top 2 challengers. These challengers will be placed back into the "Primary" knock-out rounds and have a 2nd chance to win the competition!

The Ryū Ken Chi (RKC) Dojo train the traditional Japanese martial arts of Kendo and Iaido (sword-based martial arts), as well as Jodo (the art of the short staff), that encourages the cultivation of the human character.
Kendo Kid is also available for children aged 5-13 years old.
