2026 Iaido & Jodo Training With Rene van AMERSFOORT Sensei

Rene  van AMERSFOORT Sensei from the Netherlands is a Kyoshi 8th Dan in Jodo, Kyoshi 7th dan in Iaido and 4th dan in Kendo! 

 

He will be visiting Johannesburg, South Africa from 11-17 February 2026. and will be conducting a series of workshops and regular Iaido and Jodo training sessions. 

 

For those wanting to try out either JODO or IAIDO, this  would be a wonderful opportunity for you to study these fascinating arts with one of Europe's leading sensei's! 

 

PLEASE NOTE: ALL PROCEEDS COLLECTED FROM THIS SEMINAR WILL BE USED TOWARDS FUNDING THE EXPENSES TO HOST SENSEI!   

 

The following training opportunities with Rene Sensei are available:

 

 

A) INTRODUCTION WORKSHOPS

 

1) "Introduction to JODO with Rene Sensei" on Friday, 13 February 2026 from 5-8pm @ Observatory Sports Hall (RKC Dojo Observatory). Cost is R600 per person 

 

2) "Introduction to IAIDO with Rene Sensei" on Saturday, 14 February 2026 from 7-10am @ Rivonia Sports Club (RKC Dojo Rivonia). Cost is R600 per person.

 

The cost will be R1,000 if both INTRODUCTION WORKSHOPS are signed up for.  

 

 

B) IAIDO SEMINAR 

 

There will be an "Iaido seminar with  Rene Sensei" over the weekend of 14-15 Feb 2026.  The draft training program is as follows: 

 

Saturday, 14 February 20267am - 10am: Intro to IAIDO Seminar @ RKC-RIV10-12pm : Brunch (Mugg & Bean, Rivonia)1:30- 5pm: IAIDO Seminar Part 1 @ RKC - OBS7pm: Casual dinner with sensei 

 

Sunday, 15 February 20268am - 11:30pm: IAIDO Seminar Part 2 @ RKC-OBS11:30am-1pm: Lunch (restaurant at OBS Dojo)1:30 - 5pm: IAIDO Seminar Part 4 @ RKC - OBS7pm: Sayonara Party in Sandton (TBC) 

 

The cost of the IAIDO seminar will be R2,500. 

 

 

C) PRIVATE TRAINING SESSIONS 

There will be opportunities to have have a PRIVATE TRAINING session with Rene sensei. These will be 1-hrs sessions that are priced at R1,250 per hour. This will cover the training fee and hall cost.  The session could be held either at the Rivonia Sports Club, or the Observatory Sports Hall. 

 

 

D) REGULAR TRAINING SESSION

Rene sensei will be at the RKC Dojo Rivonia on the folowing dates for some regular group training sessions: 

 

1) Iaido Group Session on Thursday, 12 Feb 2026 from 6-8pm @ Rivonia Sports Club

 

2) Jodo Group Session on Monday, 16 Feb 2026 from 6-8pm @ Rivonia Sports Club

More information about Rene sensei:


Rene sensei started practising iaido in The Netherlands in 1980. In November 2005, he achieved 7th dan. Then in February 2017, he achieved his iaido Kyoshi shogo.


Rene sensei started practising Jodo in The Netherlands in 1983 with Louis Vitalis sensei at Museido Dojo. On 3 May 2016 he achieved his 8dan in Jodo in Kyoto, Japan. In June that year he achieved the Kyoshi Shogo in Jodo in Modena, Italy.

"I started iaido and kendo in 1980 within the Nederlandse Kendo Renmei. In 1983 Jodo was added to the list. By then | was a Black belt Wado Ryu Karate-Do within the Karate-Do Bond Nederland. | am a full licensed Karate-Do teacher, full licensed iaido teacher and a full licensed Jodo teacher. | practise Kendo. In our Kiryoku Dojo in Zoetermeer we train iaido, Jodo, kendo, karate-do and in request kickboxing.


Kiryoku Dojo started in 1984. Kiryoku International started in 1996. There are many European Dojo who following our teachings. All laido and Jodo teachings are in the lineage of my Dutch Sensei Louis Vitalis who Is a direct student of Ishido, Shizufumi Sensei from Shinbukan Ishido Dojo in Kawasaki Japan. In Karate-do we follow Sugasawa, Fumio Sensei from Shikukal Karate-Do International."

"I still try to train every day myself by doing workouts or boxing sessions. Training is necessary. Without training our Mind, Body and Spirit can't be fully engaged. Fully concentrated Training sessions are important! Leaving your Comfort Zone. Keep learning and staying flexible that's what humans need. By training yourself beyond your limits you heighten your mental, psychological, technical and tactical levels. Next to this | am teaching Japanese Martial Arts (iaido and Jodo in Europe; and these Arts plus Karate-Do / Boxing and Kendo in Kiryoku Dojo) to teachers and students. Together we are working to develop our technical and mental skills to higher levels."

The Ryū Ken Chi (RKC) Dojo train the traditional Japanese martial arts of Kendo and Iaido (sword-based martial arts), as well as Jodo (the art of the short staff), that encourages the cultivation of the human character.


Kendo Kid is also available for children aged 6-13 years old.
